Fire/Life Safety
Overview:
Fire Alarm System - A system or portion of a combination system that consists of components and circuits arranged to monitor and annunciate the status of fire alarm or supervisory signal-initiating devices and to initiate the appropriate response to those signals.
System Design:
Proper design of a fire alarm system requires an understanding of fire itself - it's by-products or fire signatures, its effects, how it can be detected, and the importance of the installation. The importance of proper design cannot be overemphasized. Fire protection goals establish the baseline for the detection and alarm system operation. An owner's fire protection goal must at minimum comply with local, state & federal code requirements. Basic objectives can include:
- notifying building occupants of emergency conditions for evacuation purposes
- alerting first responders such as the fire department
- detecting fire at specific stages (smoldering or flaming)
- actuating fire suppression systems
- supervising fire suppression systems
- supervising processes for abnormalities that might result in a fire
Qualified Systems Contracting understands design criteria and the technical data that defines the system purpose and design objectives, design parameters, applicable design codes, standards and regulations, and quality assurance requirements.
